About Sung Sot Cave
Set high on Bo Hon Island, Sung Sot — often translated as "Surprise Cave" — is the grandest cavern most visitors will see on the bay. A shaded stone path climbs through the forest before opening into the first of two enormous chambers.
The inner hall is the showpiece: a ceiling that soars more than twenty metres, dramatic rock formations softly lit to pick out shapes that local guides love to point out, and a natural balcony with a sweeping view back over the anchored junks below.
Most overnight cruises on the central Ha Long route include a guided walk here on the first afternoon, when the light through the cave mouth is at its warmest.
“The largest and most theatrical grotto in Ha Long Bay, its two vast chambers lit to reveal towering stalactites.”
